When You’re Feeling Ugly

I remember reading a story or poem of some sort – can’t really remember where I read it from or who wrote it or what it was titled.

But it was written in the perspective of a little girl sharing what each of her classmates said as to why they are beautiful from their dads.

“My daddy says I’m beautiful because I have freckles.”
“My daddy says I’m beautiful because I have curly hair.”
“My daddy says I’m beautiful because I have brown hair.”
So on and so forth.
(I’m definitely paraphrasing here since I don’t completely remember the story and probably omitting other key details to the story).

The last line says something along the lines of, “My daddy must know something their daddy doesn’t know because he says I’m beautiful.”

This is key.
MY daddy knows something THEY don’t know.

The world will say your hips are too wide or that you aren’t curvy enough.
The world will say you’re too short or too tall.
The world will say you have to cover this and change that.
The world will say you just fall short of some obscure standard and say that you aren’t beautiful.

I want you to fill your heart and soul with God’s truth and not let the lies of the world crush your spirit.

You are worth more than rubies.
You are intentionally made.
You were made fearfully.
You are a daughter of a king.
You are God’s masterpiece.

Your Daddy knows what the world doesn’t know.
He is all-knowing and all-seeing and He says you are beautiful and enough.

So don’t let your spirit fall to the wayside because the world doesn’t know what beauty is.
Run to Him and soak in His truths.

Song of Songs 4:7 NIV
You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.
