5 Self-Love Habits You Need in 2019

If you don’t know me, I’m ALL about that self-love.
I wouldn’t be as strong, giving, and patient in all aspects of my life if I didn’t pour into myself.
The five habits that I’ve started applying into my life the past two years have really helped me grow and live life in a more abundant way.

And when I say abundant, I don’t mean financially. I mean with my heart and soul.
I haven’t felt this much joy, peace, and thankfulness in a very long time and I want to help you experience the same thing.

1. Align yourself with your purpose
Maybe you aren’t sure what that is or what your calling is.
Maybe you do know but you haven’t been actively pursuing it.

If you don’t know what to do with your life or if you feel like you are stuck in a dead-end job with no leads, I encourage you to take a career and/or personality test.
I’d also ask your friends and family what they think you are good at.
And also take some time to think about what you’d really love to do, no matter how impossible it seems.

Under all of that, the two most things I’d focus on is how you would like to help others and what you love doing and how they can go hand in hand.

Lastly, pray. Allow God to show you how He wants to use you. There is no greater feeling than taking the steps to be who God called you to be, even if it gets challenging and you start to lose your way.

If you do know what you want to do and you have that “itch” to chase after your calling but you aren’t actively pursuing it, it’s most likely due to fear.

Fear of letting go of a steady paycheck, fear of failing, fear of success (yup, it’s a thing..self-sabotage, anyone?), fear of not being good enough, fear of judgment… the list can go on.

Pinpoint your fear(s) learn to tackle it.

I’m not saying to do something drastic (though I’ve read stories of some people who do and they have no choice but to succeed) but at least take a step towards your calling, no matter how big or small.

2. Surround yourself in positivity
It might sound so simple and small but from the things you read, watch, listen to, think, say, and do… it all accumulates.

I’ve seen drastic changes in my life when I cut out a lot of negative energies from my life from the T.V. shows and movies that I watched, the music I listened to, the words that I spoke, the people I surrounded myself with, the books I read, and even things I would scroll by on Facebook.

The more positive energy you surround yourself with, the more elevated you will become. You start to change the way you perceive the world and the way you think about different situations and it leads to different behaviors and reactions.

Try it.
Spend time reading the Bible a little more. Read books on how to better your life. Read or watch inspiring books and documentaries. Surround yourself with friends who believe in you and speaks life into you. Listen to Jesus songs or uplifting songs. Speak kinder words. Speak life onto others. Speak life into yourself.

3. Be present
Often times, we are living in the past or into the future.
When I first left my ex, I blamed everything on him.
He took everything away from me.
He broke my heart.
He shattered my dreams of a happy family.
He left me with nothing.

And when I learned to forgive him and let go and change the way I reacted to my past, I started to live in the future.
How can I better my life?
How can I give my kids the life that they deserve?
How will I pay next month’s rent?
How will I earn enough money to buy groceries?

I was never living in the moment.
I learned to just be.
It doesn’t mean my life is perfect now.
But now I go with the flow.
I let God carry my burdens and I do my best to dwell in His peace.

It doesn’t mean I’m not being proactive about the problems at hand.
It just means I allow myself to enjoy living in the moment.
Every moment is fleeting and the times that are spent stressed, angry, upset, frustrated is wasted time.

By being in the present, I am allowing myself to experience joy and peace and make the best of any situation and create positive memories.
Those positive memories will carry you far more than any negative, defeating memories and mindset can.

Life is hard and it will suck. Life will have its ups and downs.
Might as well take it all as it comes and live life to the fullest and not let it drag you down.
This too shall pass.

4. Value your health
Fuel your body with nutrition, stay active, and sleep well.

When your health is at its best, you are far more productive and it is one less thing to worry about.

It also helps you with all of the things mentioned above.
You’re able to function better, make better choices, and stay focused.

Taking care of your health is more than just physical.
It’s about mental, emotional, and spiritual growth as well.

You learn the values of discipline, commitment, and perseverance – all good qualities that can influence all other areas of your life.

Not to mention..nobody likes being sick haha

5. Make time for family and friends
I had this problem when I left my ex and I see this as a common “sickness” in many others – people feeling lonely.

It’s hard when you got kids.
It’s even harder when you’re a single parent.

Money might be tight. Time might be scarce.
Making plans feels like another chore.

But don’t let that discourage you from making new friends, mending old friendships, and keeping them.

Put in the effort to socialize with your circle, even if it’s just a phone call or a play date in your living room.
It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant.
But make that time to fuel your relationships with family and friends and create moments with them.
Inside jokes, laughable moments, photos, videos..anything.

Just have fun!
I promise you won’t regret it.
You might get exhausted.. but you won’t regret it.
Good friendships are a blessing.
Cherish it!
